Cheap or Free Vocational Training

Marin County's Office of Education's Regional Occupational Program (ROP) This state-funded program provides both entry level and advanced technical/vocational training and enables you to upgrade existing skills or enter a new trade. Classes are held in various locations around Marin - usually in high school buildings. Most classes take place during weekdays, with some evening classes. The wide spectrum of offerings is based on current and future labor market needs. Fees are moderate (usually $55 and under) and are waived in cases meeting hardship guidelines.

  • Arts and Communication -- Computer Graphics, Design Occupations, Printing & Graphic Arts, T. V. Production, Radio Broadcasting Occupations, Multimedia.
  • Business and Marketing -- Business Office Technology, Computerized Accounting, Word Processing, Computer Applications, Internet Marketing and Research.
  • Health and Biosciences -- Home Care Worker, Certified Nurse's Assistant, Certified Home Health Aide.
  • Service Occupations -- Early Childhood Occupations, Banking and Finance, Career Management, Hospitality / Tourism, Gourmet Catering & Creative Foods, Fashion Design & Marketing, Cosmetology, Administration of Justice.
  • Technology and Engineering -- Automotive Technology, Welding Technology, Electronics Technology, Construction / Remodeling.

College of Marin -- Our local community college offers a wide spectrum of credit courses for just $12 a unit. There is possible financial support too.

Most classes are daytime, with a few evening and Saturday classes. There are also "Distance Learning" courses delivered in electronic form to your TV or computer. Here are some of the occupational offerings.
